After reading one of my marketing blog posts, Dave called me to talk.
He said, he felt as if his business was stuck using marketing tactics from twenty years ago. His marketing wasn’t working and he wasn’t sure how to move forward. His business was out of momentum and he felt that he needed help but didn’t know where to begin.
The markets for his products have changed and been disrupted but he is pretending it is still 1994. He said our products used to be so attractive to customers.
I asked Dave these ten questions to get a better understanding of his situation, almost like a rapid diagnostic test for strep you get at an Urgent Care.
- Are you spraying your message everywhere, hoping it will reach some of the right leads?
- Do you understand what motivates your customers to buy?
- Have you ever mapped out how your customers go from learning about your product to gaining a desire to buy from you to make a purchase?
- Are you trying all the social media channels without a real plan?
- Is your message clear and simple to communicate?
- Have you ever written a basic strategic marketing plan that aligns with your business objectives?
- How are you anticipating the changes in the channels of distribution?
- Are qualified leads growing or declining?
- Do you have the right traffic coming to your website?
- Are you adapting to how customers today get their information before they talk to your company?
How Can A Fresh Marketing Approach Help?
Dave’s company was stuck. His business was like a car without fuel in the tank. He quickly learned that the business needed a little work under the hood and a fresh coat of paint.
Without an injection of energy, Dave’s business was stuck in neutral. And revenue was going nowhere.
The answer for most businesses starts with by hitting refresh. When your growth is stuck, it may be time for a more up to date approach.
A marketing perspective can help but you have to be open and willing to admit that you need to follow a new course.
Maybe it is time, to rethink how an outside marketing professional can help. Whether you hire a strategist, an agency or other consultants, a fresh perspective is the best place to begin to shift from stuck to fast forward.
Remember when your car used to be pretty?
