A fulcrum is a point on which a lever rests or is supported and on which it pivots. When you try something new, you are balancing between risk and reward. At the center, the fulcrum is the pivot point in either direction.
I find it odd when I hear about companies that think they should be celebrating business failures. They should be gleaning learning and wisdom from failed experience and understanding what could be different?
Why companies promote, the celebration of failure is bewildering to me. Yes, have an environment that encourages taking a chance, but no – don’t have a party. Have a conversation to ask hard questions.
The marketing campaign that didn’t meet expectations, should beg the question, what could we have done differently? Or, what don’t we understand? What am I missing? Were my expectations unreasonable?
Every day, I look for levers to amplify, to reach or to listen to the stories customers and clients want to tell. Taking a chance is expected, but learning from it should be mandatory.
What limb are you going out on today to learn something new?
