It is undeniable that Facebook is a popular social media platform. This explains why businesses use the largest social network to reach their target customers and build awareness. This is where Facebook ads also come in handy. However, many entrepreneurs are prone to mistakes when it comes to promoting their business.

That said, we have listed down seven common mistakes that you should avoid when advertising on Facebook:

Choosing the Wrong Campaign Objective

When choosing the campaign’s objective, you have to be careful because not everything applies to you. Essentially, we’re advertising on Facebook because we want to sell something.

The goal is always to get customers at the end of the sales funnel. But it doesn’t mean that every Facebook advertising campaign’s goal should only be conversion.

If you choose the wrong campaign objective, several things can happen to you. You might not get the results that you want. You might miss out on opportunities that you could have had. You also might end up spending money that didn’t end up giving you good results in the first place.

Therefore, you should be careful with the campaign objective you have in mind for your Facebook ads campaigns.

Incorrect Audience Targeting

At Voy Media Marketing Agency NYC, we noticed that some clients target everyone with their Facebook ads. Since their goal is to sell, dictating a specific target audience can “seem” like a lost opportunity when it’s anything but that.

Nonetheless, ensure that you won’t go too broad nor too narrow with your target audience.

Too broad is like marketing to everyone ‒ and we know that marketing to everyone is marketing to no one. The same thing goes with too narrow a niche.

Wrong Choice of Ad Placement

There are many different options of where you want your ads to go or show. And in case you are unaware, ad placement can impact how your strategy can help you attain your promotional goals.

That’s why you should also be careful of your ad placement.

Other than the ad placement, you should also optimize your ads. This is to ensure that your ads will look consistent and high-quality regardless of screen size.

Ideally, you want your ads to blast from any and everywhere, but that’s impractical. It might eat you out of an advertising budget if you advertise, so choose your ad placement wisely.

Not Optimizing Ads for Mobile

There’s an increasing number of people with smartphones worldwide. Therefore, it would be a huge mistake not to optimize your ads so that they’re good to look at even if you’re a mobile user.

You might want to create a separate ad campaign specifically for mobile users to make it easier for you to optimize your ads.

Not Using Viral-Worthy Content

If you’re a traditionalist in advertising, you might be missing out on connecting and engaging with your audience. That’s why, if it seems natural, why not consider applying or using relevant memes and funny, viral-worthy content to spice up your ads.

Of course, this won’t work for every business, but if you find that it’s something you can do, take the leap and try it out for your ads too.

Not Testing the Landing Page

Ensure that you lead people into the landing page after clicking your Facebook ad is optimized and runs smoothly. Otherwise, you’re wasting your ad spend and the time of your potential customer. You’re also losing out on a business opportunity.

Therefore, you shouldn’t only focus on bettering your ads. Don’t forget your landing pages as well.

Not Utilizing Videos

These days, businesses use videos to engage their audience and target market. Therefore, if you can, try and incorporate more videos into your ad campaigns.

Videos pack more of a punch and get people to stay longer on your ad than with an image or a wall of text. You’ll find that videos are quite useful in reaching a wider audience than images are, even if you give them the same budget.

Advertising on Facebook does not take rocket science. However, you should be mindful of your ad copy, placement, and target audience. That way, you can connect with your target market and build awareness for your brand.
