Last night, for some unknown reason I was thinking about the Colorwar fight songs. it was odd. W stands for White, the white have got to fight..AndIi thought of a few old friends from those long ago days, Mark Winick and Mickey Jacobs. I looked up the web and what a surprise there were the names. All three of us were good athletes and had it in our DNA to become leaders and Winadu fostered that. I will just share 2 quick stories – The first is that mark and I won a tennis tournament at Camp Greylock and Winadu really had a nice way of making us feel very good about it. it was all quite exciting for a 12 year old. The second is about color war. In my last year, I think Mickey and I were Lieutenants in our division on different teams. I remember one amazing volleyball game that kept going and gathered large crowd. Both teams struggled on and finally our side won. We were exhilarated. That same night we had the play competition and Mickey had the lead role for his side and I for mine. The story was Billy Budd. We both did a great job and he won. I remember walking back to the bunk crying sadly. It was such a great time for raw emotion. By next morning, beds had to be made, flag raising etc. and a new day. I would love hear from either Mickey or Mark just see how their lives played out.

Your name, the Etras….all so familiar. I went to Allegro with Anne Etra.
Memories still remain vivid….along with the taste of the many 1/2 gallons of Friendly’s ice cream we would share as a bunk; torn open as we sat on the floor and pierced by pink plastic spoons as a bunk! (I don’t know, did you guy s do that as well!)

Just came upon this blog during a Google search for Winadu and Allegro. I spent 7 (I think) summers as a Winadu camper and one as a counselor. I remember my first year was in bunk 3 with Mark Winick, Bob Slater, Robert Sachs – and our counselor was Josie.
