On Monday, January 8, 2018, at 8 PM, my daughter Fanny will be on the Cooking Channel’s top show called THE BEST THING I EVER ATE. The episode is all about Life Changers.

I’m a little excited!

She will tell the story about Wilmington’s premier restaurant called Pinpoint and how their catfish and grits changed her life. Fanny and her husband Tony had their rehearsal dinner at Pinpoint on September 2, 2017, because Fanny wanted all her northern family to be able to celebrate the best thing she ever ate. Set your DVR. The show does repeat, and it is Season 8 episode number 5 titled Life Changers.

There is a beautiful article in the Raleigh News & Observer written by their new food writer Brooke Cain. Read the story here.

You may notice two handsome young men at the table with my daughter. One is her husband Tony, and the other is me. Hey, we get hungry too, and Dean’s catfish and grits are the best things we ever ate! If you live in Wilmington, NC, run don’t walk to Pinpoint and order the catfish and grits. Tell them Fanny sent you. The crispy coating on the catfish with the creamy, smoky grits makes my mouth water and my eyes tear up with happiness.

Fanny will be in two more episodes of Best Thing I Ever Ate this seasons including one with a particular 90-year old celebrity named Bea who recently did some advertising for JDate. Watch to learn about Fanny’s favorite sandwich in the galaxy and where she goes when she wants something beyond sushi. (Hint: one is in Millburn, New Jersey and one is in Honolulu, Hawaii)

Marketing, Family & Storytelling

In case you are wondering, why write about my family on my marketing blog? Telling my story is what I do, and of course, it involves my family. Food, family, and marketing are so intertwined that it is hard to keep them separate. I like to think of it like a soup where I mix in all my favorite ingredients.

Stay hungry.
